Here's the Deal

I'm in New Hampshire. It's cold. It's cold most places in the same geographical area because it is winter, but it is very cold in New Hampshire. How did I end up in New Hampshire in a library in the middle of winter about 8 months after I graduated? Well, here's the deal.

I didn't know what to do with life after college--I wasn't too good at figuring out life during college either, but that's another story. I decided to return to my summer job of the past few summers in New Hampshire at The Summer Theatre in Meredith Village. I worked in the box office for the summer and returned home to figure out my next plan of action.

First on my list was to get my license. I had gotten to 22 years old without having anything more than a permit and it was time to go beyond. Time to seek my indepence and set out on my own! (Did I mention that I'm an actor and I can be a bit overly dramatic at times?) I did indeed get my license and I almost felt like a real person.

By November I still had not made any further plans, however. I was tossing around the idea of going into BVS or some other service program, when I decided to start working on a novel for National Novel Writing Month. It was a good discipline, at least, for someone who had no discipline in her life.

I wrote every day for the first few weeks, amped up on coffee and high on my writing wave. Then I got the great idea to come back up to New Hampshire to see what fall was like in this beautiful state. Returning on a jet plane, I started to help out at The Summer Theatre during their off season. Even a summer theatre has winter needs.

We started working on a Christmas Cabaret and I ended up writing a children's play based on the tradition of The Elf on the Shelf. It was called "Hector, the Magic Elf." I found myself, however, on November 30th, scrambling to finish my novel. I didn't finish it. But I did get to see my children's play performed by the fabulous Junior Interns of The Summer Theatre just in time for Christmas.

I went home after the Christmas Cabaret and immediately left for Europe. This trip was something I had wanted for a long time. In college I always thought that I would go abroad for a semester to England. It never happened. When I graduated, my parents decided that my senior trip would be to England as soon as my dad and I were able to go!

We waited and waited. I thought I was going to have to go by myself. Then my dad was going with me. Then my brother weaseld his way in. In December, it actually happened. We had been planning for months and I never thought it would happen, but it truly did. I am planning on doing a blog post just on England.

After England, I decided to head back up to New Hampshire. This is where I am now. I have a part time job helping the theatre and a part time job at a local pizzeria. This is my life and my real life experience of life. This is going to be a book someday, but for now it is random ramblings of a college graduate who is figuring out what to do now that she's grown up. ;-D
