Stumbling on Greatness

I haven't written a blog in a while and it's eating at me. Or, that is, I just keep eating because of the guilt of not blogging?

Anyway, I'm apparently signed-up for weekly or monthly StumbleUpon newsletters. This just means that once in a while, StumbleUpon throws me an email with about four links and says you might like these... Usually, I look them over quickly, go to one or two, stare at the star-field it has placed in front of me, smile and delete the email.

This last email, however, had something interesting in it. It's an article entitled, 30 Challenges for 30 Days. I followed the link and I have been inspired to try one of these. Watch the Ted talk below to get your own inspiration and then follow the link to decide what your 30 day challenge will be.

Every November for the past four years, I've been doing just what he talks about in the video, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), and failing. I've gotten about halfway but I've never finished. I have learned a lot from doing this every year, though.

  1. I need to have a better plan before diving into November, even if it's not the best novel idea in the world. I just need a place to start.
  2. I'll never become a famous author if I only write for one month a year and then sit on my hands the rest of the time. I need to get into a regular writing routine.

So, all that said, I'm going to do some of these challenges they suggest on the website. Starting with my recurring NaNoWriMo. Once November is over, and I have a freshly written, 50,000 word novel, I will move onto my next 30 day challenge. Maybe I'll be somewhere different in five years or maybe I'll just have several badly written novels. Who knows? Doesn't hurt to try!

Blessings and Bonfires,
Rachel
