Spiritual Detox

"I'm sure now I'll see God's goodness in the exuberant earth.  Stay with God! Take heart. Don't quit.  I'll say it again: Stay with GOD."  Psalm 27:14 (MSG) New year. Turning 25. Time to start detoxing. Things I've learned on my "quest" for a spiritual detox: Always start with a good cup of hot chocolate, some candles, and God. Not necessarily in that order.  Talk to someone who cares about you or at least be with them--mom, mentor, etc. Start with the physical (body, home, work space, etc.) and turn it spiritual. Be aware of your surroundings. I started keeping a gratitude journal. I mark down something I'm grateful for every day--when I remember to, that is. But it's something I need to be more intentional about. Pray, meditate, listen. Work on acknowledging that you deserve the forgiveness you are given freely. This is hard for me to accept. That no matter what I do, God will forgive me if I ask him. I really can...

My Inspiration

Right now Elizabeth Gilbert is my inspiration. She gets me and she doesn't even know it, lol. I love the movie Eat, Pray, Love , but I was loving the book even more. I'm reading another book right now for a book talk I'm leading, but after that's done, I'm headed straight back to the writings of Ms. Gilbert. One of my favorite quotes from the book and the movie is the one about her missing her boyfriend, David: “I’m not laughing.” I was actually crying. “And please don’t laugh at me now, but I think the reason it’s so hard for me to get over this guy is because I seriously believed David was my soul mate. ”He probably was. Your problem is you don’t understand what that word means. People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that’s what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that’s holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life.
