Creative Prayer
Recently I was asked to lead devotions for the staff in my office. I wanted to do something creative and fresh.I found a blog with ideas for alternative worship (here) which gave me the idea I used.
Do you remember those fortune tellers that we used to use--at least my friends and I did--to predict, well, the future? They looked like this:

Well this site offered a prayerful use for this fun toy from my past. She writes, "You could either make them beforehand with prayer requests already inside them, or you could get people to make them during a session and fill in their own, or the groups prayer requests. People then play the game in twos and pray for the request they end up landing on."
She said she hadn't completely fleshed out the idea so to go ahead and try it and report back. That's what I did! I made the fortune tellers beforehand since I only had about 15 minutes for the devotions and then handed them out. They opened them up, sent them around the table (there were about 5-6 to a table) and everyone wrote their prayers inside. Then they broke into pairs or groups of three and played/prayed together.
It seemed a little silly at first but then it turned out really neat. I was standing there, surrounded by prayer all around the room. Lovely!
Thanks to Suzy for the inspiration!
Try it for yourself!
Hearts & Hugs,
Rachel
