Spiritual Detox

"I'm sure now I'll see God's goodness in the exuberant earth.
Stay with God! Take heart. Don't quit.
I'll say it again: Stay with GOD."
Psalm 27:14 (MSG)

New year. Turning 25. Time to start detoxing. Things I've learned on my "quest" for a spiritual detox:
  1. Always start with a good cup of hot chocolate, some candles, and God. Not necessarily in that order.
  2. Talk to someone who cares about you or at least be with them--mom, mentor, etc.
  3. Start with the physical (body, home, work space, etc.) and turn it spiritual.
  4. Be aware of your surroundings. I started keeping a gratitude journal. I mark down something I'm grateful for every day--when I remember to, that is. But it's something I need to be more intentional about.
  5. Pray, meditate, listen.
  6. Work on acknowledging that you deserve the forgiveness you are given freely. This is hard for me to accept. That no matter what I do, God will forgive me if I ask him. I really can't wrap my head around the fact that I deserve his love because he created me.
  7. Some words of wisdom and songs for encouragement I've found:
  • "Peace be still and know that I am God."
  • "Cleanse my heart, oh God. Make it ever new."
  • "For you are fearfully and wonderfully made." Psalm 139:14
  • "If you clear out all that space in your mind that you’re using right now to obsess...you’ll have a vacuum there, an open spot – a doorway. And guess what the universe will do with the doorway? It will rush in – God will rush in – and fill you with more love than you ever dreamed." -Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love)

    Rules to live by!
I know I have a problem when it comes to detoxing. I always seem to start cleaning, make it beautiful and new, and then I end up dirtying it right up again. This has to be the year of no more excuses. I hardly ever make resolutions just because I know I'll never keep them. But I'm going to make an effort this year to detox.

Thanks for the support! Whether you know you're giving it or not, you are.

Peace and Hugs,
Rachel
